I still have the one that was with the distro, and it generates errors.
I know the errors have been explained, but I've never gotten around to
editing it.

Yes, Lane, it is the right one for Lubuntu. I have only Lubuntu installed at the usb stick, no ubuntu or kubuntu. As mentioned before, I do not have any problem now with Maverick and it is updated several times since, now at 2.6.35-19 and the grub.cfg is now automatically generated.

But if I followed what others (at Ubuntu) have done to solve the nvidia problem that you may have, it goes something like this....

At xorg.conf, change Driver "nvidia" to Driver "nv"
Append at *top* of xorg.conf .....
Section "ServerFlags"
        Option "IgnoreABI" "True"
EndSection

reboot (at this point you may not have nvidia, just vesa)
If, you boot to a terminal and not desktop, login and do update/upgrade.
You may have to reboot if there is any kernel changes, check if grub.cfg is updated, if not "sudo update-grub" first before reboot.

After reboot, if still at terminal, "startx" or "startlxde".

Then reinstall your nvidia driver at preferences->additional drivers.
Make sure you set "save to X configuration file" at the Nvidia settings when installed.

Good luck. - Goh Lip
