Please consider this largely thinking out loud on my part. I'm only an iso-tester with no ties to the actual development end of things, but I did a bit of studying that I hope may be helpful regarding this.
I pulled up the Ubuntu and Lubuntu live-i386 Beta 1 iso-tracker pages: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/test/6450 http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/test/6386 You'll see that OEM testing was listed under the Ubuntu image but not the Lubuntu image. (OT but the same was true of Wubi installs). So I suspect that Ubuntu development just isn't there yet with Lubuntu, but that's just a guess. Ultimately I think two things are required here: 1) File a bug from the fresh OEM install if possible by opening lxterminal and running 'ubuntu-bug ubiquity' which will allow apport to collect info, then give the bug a title and I'd think the same explanation you provided here would be sufficient as a description. 2) Maybe Phill or Julien could correspond with Colin Watson (or another installer team member) via IRC channel #ubuntu-installer regarding the status of OEM installs with Lubuntu live images. Note: sorry I haven't yet managed to tackle IRC-chat, I have tried but my visual impairment always gets the best of me :^/ I hope this might be at least slightly helpful, as always thanks to everyone for all they do, Lance --- On Sun, 9/4/11, Richard Foulkes <[email protected]> wrote: From: Richard Foulkes <[email protected]> Subject: [Lubuntu-desktop] OEM Mode doesn't work? To: "Lubuntu" <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, September 4, 2011, 3:35 PM Hi guys, I've just installed the beta1 i386 desktop iso in vmware - and i'm disappointed to see that the OEM installation mode still isn't working. I didn't enter a name for the 'batch of systems', selected 'download updates whilst installing', automatic partitioning options, timezone Europe/London, UK standard keyboard, and set the hostname and password for the temporary user. As with ubuntu desktop, the OEM user is created (uid/gid 29999), but the oem-config-prepare script is missing. I don't know how oem mode works on a regular ubuntu in terms of which packages are installed. If i manually install the oem-config package (and its dependencies), then run oem-config-prepare then i DO get the 'out of box experience' - however it's in the console not X - plus i am prompted to install packages for ubuntu server! I have a feeling that this bug might hinder lubuntu's official adoption as an official derivative which would be a shame. I like the ubiquity slideshow though - looks very nice! -- This message was sent from Launchpad by Richard Foulkes (https://launchpad.net/~rbsfou) using the "Contact this team" link on the Lubuntu team page (https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-desktop).
