Isn't /var/cache a better suited place for this kind of thing? It's a little bit weird to put cache in /usr/share. Even better if you can separate things for different locales in different cache files. This way you may waste some disk spaces and create lots of db files, but the result will be faster. Not sure if this speed up is visible to user and worth the work. It's up to you. Anyways, congratulations for the speed up!
