What worked for me for a while was to copy over the iso image using dd.
To boot from usb hold down cmd+opt+o+f while the machine powers on.
Then at the openfirmware prompt enter
boot usb1/disk@1:2,\\yaboot
Sometimes it was usb1 other times usb0
