the issue isn't regressions, but that ssl validation wasn't working correctly (universally) AND pop3 was losing mail. the security issue with ssl validation is certainly the security issue driving the whole thing. if we can drag along someone with pop3, that would be great. we should create a lubuntu-qa gmail account and switch pop3 on and we can solve that problem. :)
