I've been noticing that my low-end daily use is around 1.1 - 1.5 GB RAM on AMD64. That is unfortunate because my machine only has 1GB and I have to rely on swap for the rest. That just with a mail client, a web browser, and a chat client. A second browser and an SIP client add further.
