From my early ZevenOS days, which was called Zebuntu back then, I know that Canonical has a trademark on every *buntu word. This was one of the reasons we changed the name.

The link jumbles up trademark, patents and copyright, but down in the
trademark section, Lubuntu is conspicuously missing. I guess Ali would
have to contact Canonical as to who actually holds the trademark on the
name Lubuntu?
