Anyway, I choose between Lubuntu 13.04 and 12.04. On this Asus the former is a lot more practical, only 1 gig memory.
Gary, and All:

The above may only be an indication of the different way I use my Lubuntu systems. My experience does differ from the above.

The way I use them, 1 gigabyte of RAM (on 32-bit architecture systems) has always been plenty, and I don't feel 'cramped' in limited memory at all.

With 512 megabytes of RAM (again, on 32-bit architecture), I do have to limit some of the things I would otherwise do, so I am feeling 'a little cramped' in that limited memory space.

With 384 megabytes of RAM (32-bit architecture), I really have to limit what I do, and on 256 megabytes of RAM, I can barely get by, and can't use some things I really like to use.

On all of my systems, I do MIDI music, and run Java applications.

I recently installed Lubuntu 13.10 on a 256 megabyte RAM system, and it seemed to be okay for reasonable use. I didn't do a lot of testing on it, though.

I have declared my minimum system requirements (for my application) to be 512 megabytes RAM, and 800 megahertz processor speed (on 32-bit architecture).

I regularly load 32-bit architecture systems into 64-bit architecture machines, and they run fine. But you can't in some such cases, access all of the RAM, though you don't need to, because 32-bit architecture programs need less memory. I can explain why they need less memory, if anyone is interested.

I do run 64-bit architecture Ubuntu systems on my more-capable 64-bit machines, as I have to test in those environments as well.
