Hi,
I noticed this same bug earlier. If you run across this bug again, you
can always manually update from the terminal
using the command:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
which, is what I did. The update fixed the software updater program,
and I haven't had trouble with it since then.

I installed Lubuntu14.04 about a week ago.
Today, for the first time I connected it to the internet.
Firefox works OK.

After a while it offers 155.6MB of updates,
