I have definitely had issues with Nvidia graphics and suspend. I currently have to use the proprietary Nvidia drivers, because nouveau no longer supports suspend (it worked great in 12.04). So now I have to deal with the nvidia issues (occasional issues with compositing... easily fixed by restarting the compositor)... but I can suspend. I really think the issue is the nvidia card now, and you should try to see if you can find some info on that specific card. You can try searching with duckduckgo, or you could also try the ubuntuforums, as there may have been someone with similar issues. Of course if the problems date back to the Hardy Heron days, you may not get much use out of that post. side note: Did anyone else think that default wallpaper for Ubuntu was one of the best ever? > Hello Farinet!
