I've had to do this for a couple of friend's systems.

After installing LibreOffice, I find that I usually have to reboot before LXSession Default Apps realises that some new, relevant software has been installed.

OK, but in any case LXSession Default Apps only sets a choice for "Documents." Won't that cause LibreOffice to open .abw (AbiWord) files? I'm looking for finer control based on file extensions, unless there is a way to do it via mime types.
