I use a Epson L355, on a network, without a problem...

I second iscan. I have a WorkForce 645 (that replaced an earlier Epson WF) I
use on my home network. iscan worked for both for years. Iscan is actually
really cool software in my opinion. You should try it. This is a pdf about it:

I know the iscan-data pkg must be installed prior to the installion of iscan
itself. I never had any trouble with it, but if you do, this may be helpful:
