Hi again Friet, I do not know much about firmware upgrades.
The discussion about including tools for 'extended lifespan' into Lubuntu can be continued at the Lubuntu Users mailing list. I hope and think other people might have ideas about it.
Please post a question in the Hardware Forum at the Ubuntu Forums. ubuntuforums.org I think you have a good chance to get a useful reply there too. Best regards Nio Den 2016-04-30 kl. 20:02, skrev Friet Pan:
I see, Thanks for explaining, it does make sense. And ir would make a nice addition to this page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LTS I assumes that LTS meant the same as stable. Thats why I jumped into 16.04 at the release date. Allthough I had been warned. I'll delay other planned upgrades, but I will Try Lubuntu on a few other boxes. Also, what tools are available or reccomended to do firmware upgrades within *buntu? I came across this post: http://metal03326.blogspot.nl/2012/04/samsung-p-ssd1800-firmware-update.html And I have the feeling that this could be related to the Aspire's issues.tools for 'extended lifespan' But I only have *buntu boxes. Also since Lubuntu aims at 'extended lifespan' It would be nice if these tools would be included in Lubuntu by default, and get some exposure on how to use them. This could get eventually get more performance out of old boxes that are crapped up by 'that other OS' Allthough this could also introduce more risks if it is not 100% clear how to use these tools. I'd be happy to give it a try, allthough it would be nice to have some guidance. I'm a Ubuntu User since 10.04 but I don't have any dev skills. I don't really enjoy commandline work but i'm not afraid of it. I hope my feedback is of any use? Hi Friet, There are 'always' bugs in a new release. Gradually the bugs are squashed. If you want to smooth ride, I suggest that you only use the following long time releases, 12.04.1 LTS 12.04.5 LTS 14.04.1 LTS 14.04.5 LTS (when it will arrive) 16.04.1 LTS (when it will arrive) 16.04.5 LTS (when it will arrive) Waiting until the first point release, late in July or in August, will give you an iso file which is much better debugged than the original iso file (right now, skip 16.04 LTS, instead wait for 16.04.1 LTS). You should also avoid to 'do-release-upgrade' until when the first point release iso files are available (late in July or in August). Best regards Nio
