It was only on 14th September that I successfully installed Lubuntu 16.04 for
the first time (for a friend) and then the next day for myself on my Toshiba
laptop. In the process I discovered some annoying quirks (bugs?) which I would
have expected to be fixed by now unless I am the first to notice them.

1. PCManFM. The "Find files" tool in 14.04 (version 1.2.0) follows symbolic
links but the 1.2.4 version in 16.04 does not. This could have been a deal
breaker for me but, fortunately, XFe does what I need.

More worryingly both versions of PCManFM have another file find problem. If you
are searching for a filename containing, for example, "xyz" and there is a
subdirectory which matches, e.g. "axyzb", then any matching files in that
subdirectory will not be found. XFe gets that one right too.

2. Wireless connection. It took me several attempts, including a reboot, before
I spotted the problem. I was typing my friend's wireless key as he read it to
me and the system kept ignoring me - no connection, no error message. Finally I
noticed that the connection manager was giving up and going into "offline" mode
before I finished typing. Whose bright idea was that? I had to use copy and
paste in order to enter the key sufficiently quickly.

It will be interesting to see if these quirks are still present in 16.10 when
it is released although I will probably never install it since it won't be LTS.
