I don’t see any Pulseaudio settings/app. I did bring up the amixer in ALSA but did not see any settings to change. I also did set the user to have audio control as suggested by another poster, but still no audio.

Hi. if you are using pulseaudio (e.g. Lubuntu after 16.10) you have to change settings via the application "pavucontrol" (tab: configuration). With versions earlier than 16.10 you have to configure ALSA via amixer. Check with "cat /proc/asound/cards" for hardware and set it with "amixer -c NUMBER" I think.
