In my experience, if you can see a list of wifi networks, you are ready to go. All you need is the wifi password / encryption key. There was one lubuntu release (16.04) where you only had about 20 seconds to enter the key. Watch for the disconnection message at the top right of the screen. You probably have a function key to turn wifi on / off. On my Toshiba laptop it is FN-F8.
