Good question :-)
It is enough to disable them in the BIOS (which is possible in several
systems).
Best regards

Hi Nio,
Thanks for the quick answer.
Do I need to remove other internal drives physically, or is it
sufficient to disable them in the BIOS in some way?

Dear all,
I would like to install Lubuntu 18.04 on an external Solid State
Drive. This works well, but I would like to encrypt the drive as
well. When installing from an USB stick with the live version,
at certain point I have to choose:
* Erase disk and install Ubuntu
o Encrypt the new Lubuntu installation for security
o Use LVM with the new Lubuntu installation
* Something else
When choosing the first option ('Erase disk and install Ubuntu')
you can check the option 'Encrypt ...' .
However, when installing Lubuntu on a USB stick or SSD I am
supposed to choose 'Something else' as far as I understand.
However, when choosing 'Something else' the options 'Encrypt
...' and 'Use LVM ... ' are grayed out, I cannot check them.
My question: is there a trick that make it possible to create a
*bootable and encrypted* SSD (or USB drive)?
Best,
Wilbert
Hi Wilbert,
If you remove the other (internal) drives, the SSD will be the
default target, and you can use the options
* Erase disk and install Ubuntu
o Encrypt the new Lubuntu installation for security
o Use LVM with the new Lubuntu installation
and get an encrypted SSD 'disk'.
See also this link for more details about installing in an external
drive,
