The patch is invalid because it exposes the same issue: OS_NAME is still null :)
This should work (the try-catch block is not necessary):
OS_NAME = System.Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable ("OS") ?? "Linux";
...
I could provide a patch that detects the appropriate Unix OS. Let me know if
it's necessary.
