ICTs can improve business - expert

By Davis Weddi

A local Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) expert has said local entrepreneurs who use ICT appropriately can run more efficient businesses and reach more markets.

James Lunghabo, the managing director of Linux Solutions (Uganda), said this at an ICT seminar recently.

"Organisations should invest appropriate levels of resources into the design, planning and management of ICT systems," Lunghabo said.

He said with the rapid and continuous evolution of business techniques and technology, it is vital to anticipate business trends and understand how ICT is driving or reacting to the market forces.

Lunghabo said market position and competitive advantage often depend the quality of ICT.

He named some successful examples of ICTs in business in Uganda. They include Britannia Allied Industries which has an online database which can be accessed by clients all over the country to order for products, water bills can be paid using sms (short phones messages).

He also named fast-food chains like Bon Appetit, Dominos Pizza and Steers who process orders for food on phone and deliver the edibles to the customers.
