Secondly, MySQL is getting soooo much publicity, you would think it is a viable alternative for Enterprise level RDBMS needs to Oracle.
Lastly there is the 1000 pound gorilla in IBM that is also funding Linux in a big way and porting their two Enterprise Level DBs (Informix and DB2) fully to Linux, so there will be competition.
I think within 5 years one of the following will happen. Microsoft will join the Linux bandwagon and try and sell all its apps on Linux (i.e. exchange, Outlook and MSOFFICE).
Microsoft will buy a much higher stake in Apple (say 30% or more) and use it as a platform to push a microsoft solution alternative (on UNIX) than Linux. They will then encourage OS X on intel boxes. This will be of limited value if they go this way because teh cost factor of OSS will still beat OS X, but the move to Intel would significantly reduce the price of OS X because of the much larger market it would reach. For microsoft it would be a case of better-devil-you-know!

To the best of my Knowledge, Oracle has some of the most restrictive licensing regimes ever seen on the face of the world.
