true. it took me a full day to get a running nagios system.. but i need a 
nms with a database backend.. it might be easier to integrate with other 
systems, especially rrdtool.

i think cacti is a front-end to rrdtool. it has a nice gui but is lengthy 
in setiing up devices and graphs.. its easier to use text files for me 
than cacti's web interface.
