lug_: Problems with IMAP on SuSE 8.2

I was getting a problem with IMAP applications in SuSE 8.2.  The passwords were being rejected.

Found my problem.  From SuSE 8.2 and above IMAP only allows encrypted passwords, not plain text (unless under SSL).
