Hi all.

This is especially to members that take part in the BGP routing on the
Internet, and specifically accept the full routing table from your upstream
carriers.

Africa Online Uganda is participating in the global routing table, by
announcing its own prefixes to the Internet. However, we are announcing
longer prefixes for traffic engineering reasons, which means for members
that receive a full BGP feed, it's possible your router's will prefer the
path to our network over the Internet, even after you receive our prefixes
from the exchange. This is because our prefixes at the exchange are
aggregated, and thus, shorter than the ones advertised on the Internet.

To solve this, you may use the LOCAL_PREF or MED attributes, or even Cisco
Weights, to prefer our prefixes that you learn over the exchange.

If you should have any questions, please feel free to mail me on/off list.
Thanks.

Regards,

Mark Tinka - CCNP
