Probably the most well known live cdrom distro. I use it quite a lot at things 
like preparing a machine for installation e.g. creating partitions using 
cfdisc etc, but also hear that it can be put to use as a great emergency 
recovery disc, although I've never gotten into a situation to warrant its use 
in such a manner.

However, the best thing about knoppix is that it is a debian derivative. This 
is testimony to the fact that Debian is emerging as a base system from which 
other distros based.
