Gates: ......... There are things that we need to do to make sure that the rhetoric gets closer in touch with the facts. But we do think of Linux as a significant competitor. Although, it’s really not Linux by itself. Keep in mind that when people want to do a directory, when they want to do a file server, they have to buy or install a ton of other software on top of Linux. And against that, we are way cheaper, way simpler, with one unified architecture that exists throughout the computing environment.
So there are very few cases where what you add on doesn’t make Linux a significantly more expensive solution. But we’re in the Windows business to offer the best value. ....
