Linspire is too similar to windows for my liking with a default login as
Administrator with uid 0 et al - even a yearly subscription based paying for
packages [I'm not talking about just commercial packages but even things like
mplayer] - and that's after buying the Linspire cds.. I mean..

On the bright side, the yearly fee is rather low and entitles one for
discounts on commercial unix software (e.g. cross over et al), so for a
windows convert used to paying $100 for lots of s/w I guess it's an
improvement. Given that they've used debian's apt tools to power their "click
n run" installations, I guess windows converts are much more happier than
having to learn rpm --aid -ivh et al.

Also you could always just use apt natively with the debian repositories if
you have the time to sort out differences btn the .debs and the linspire
packages, but I did give Linspire a try and it didn't last 16hours on my
laptop... really.. and windows still has a partition on the same laptop...

(still have the ISO somewhere in case someone's interested).

Now this one's a beauty.
