This is certainly a good idea. I am all for it however can we have some
interested campus guyz or babes willing to volunteer and see such an
initiative through? We would need a few hands and feet to run around and
mobilise the likes of Noah who can not be uprooted from their office seats
anyhow :)

What would be involved? I guess suggestions can start flowing.

PS: Ernest, you still seem to doubt Linux's readiness for the desktop, I
have a copy of the 3rd beta CD for the recently released Novell Desktop
and it is da bomb I can assure you.

>>Greetings LUG'ers,
>>
>>I hope you will forgive this posting by a lurker in your community. My
>>name is Steve Song and I work for the International Development Research
>>Centre (IDRC). Some of you I know have come across our organisation
>>before.
>>
>>I would like to start by saying how much I appreciate this list. More
>>often than not the latest Linux news reaches via Uganda long before
>>anywhere else. I also appreciate the debate and discussion that goes on
>>here.
>>
>>The reason I am writing is because I recognise (I think), from time to
>>time, an inclination of group members to do more as a collective entity
>>to promote open source and Linux. I have been reluctant to say anything
>>as I am truly a lurker and not a member of your community.
>>
>>However, I had an idea today that I thought I would share. Have any of
>>you come across Penguin Day (http://www.penguinday.org/)? I quote
>>briefly from their website
>>
>>"At local Penguin Days non-profit organizations explore the range of
>>issues and options involved using Free and Open Source Software (F/OSS).
>>Penguin Day started in Philadelphia in March 2004 by a working group of
>>nonprofit technology organizations: Aspiration (www.aspirationtech.org)
>>NOSI (www.nosi.net) and the LINC Project (www.lincproject.org)
>>Established with the intent to bring together open source developers and
>>technology support staff for nonprofits, the event began an important
>>conversation about the challenges and opportunities we face."
>>
>>Any interest in a Ugandan Penguin Day?
>>
>>
>>Regards... Steve
