You may be right seen many SuSE Boxes as I/we replaced  Redhat  with some just  for fun :-) .But some hint; providers like  UTL and Spacenet leave the Shadowman behind rocking  while other big names  like Infocom,Africa Online ,One2net,MTN and linuxgiants (linuxsolutions) prefer the distro in  the green box. Dumped Fedora 3 on some major production box  in some busy cafe(one of the biggest). ;-) .But seems SuSE still rocks in Uganda.
But if the Mandrake guys keep pushing they might steal the Desktop show :-D .
Well I recomend no distribution for any one  but do recommed Knoppix Live CD for all sysadmins it should be in your Toolbox.Become my friend and I will give you a free copy at a cheap price  ;-) .
"But what I think there are different distros for different purposes to help the people who might do the survey you won't find Mandrake on my Rack" But you might on my Desktop.(and on Dual Boot)

"The info in this mail  is or may not be right" You free to  edit and correct it (It's open so to say) as long as you indicate.

If I may ask do the owners of this list plan to put up a site for this list.If not "do we?" :-)

Hi

In Uganda, I can unofficially say that Suse Linux has the greatest number
of Installs available from the experience we have with supporting and
installing Linux Systems as a company.

As regards the study that was done in 2003, it did not get down to the OS
flavours but for sure I too would be very interested in such a study for
obvious reasons.

Sounds like a project that would need time, money. What would the

purpose of

this survey be?

Speaking from the point of view of EACOSS, this would be very handy in
gauging the level of training required as well as the target
institutions/organizations.
Also very instrumental in assesing the level of awareness efforts
required, direction as well as potential partners.
There was a survey done by Wire sometime back on behalf of IICD in this
direction. Have you got your hands on it?

Initially, if the local computer companies can get you sales stats,

you could

glean that information.

Mark.
