That list was very interesting. There were only 7 viruses!
One of the viruses only worked on systems that had been hacked.
The others were over three years old and only worked on systems that had not been patched.

Quoting from the web page below on the Number Windows viruses...
http://www.cknow.com/vtutor/vtnumber.htm
"In 1990, estimates ranged from 200 to 500; then in 1991 estimates ranged from 600 to 1,000 different viruses. In late 1992, estimates were ranging from 1,000 to 2,300 viruses. In mid-1994, the numbers vary from 4,500 to over 7,500 viruses. In 1996 the number climbed over 10,000. 1998 saw 20,000 and 2000 topped 50,000. It's easy to say there are more now...."

So 7 viruses VS. 50,000+

Anyway you can patch Windoze XP to service pack 2 and beyond and insert a floppy infected with Boot.Malmo/Junkie/Hurri (which was first detected in 1994 http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_653.htm) and you will infect that machine. So a 1994 created virus will still affect a 2005 OS which is patched exactly as it should be! Talk about a decade of innovation in software!

In fact without an antivirus you can just open a picture or email on a Windoze box and take down the machine.

All you need on Linux is to set your YAST to auto-update and you will be OK. But even if you did-not, seeing that the newest linux virus for the list, affected packages in 2002, you will not get infected by a linux virus using a native install of any Linux OS after 2002. This can never be said of M$ since 2002 to date!

I rest my case :-)

:-) Kiggs when you google for linux viruses you get a list of sites ;-) .Now when you talk of malware/spyware
I think you know about what's going on with Bill Gates' Microsoft in Europe.Guys want to see the code and stop porting the media player version in newer releases of windoze .Why?
So my conclusion your distro can be spyware/anti-spyware ;-) It can be a virus or antivirus too or a factory for both Look at Windows Media player,IE(Legal Spyware).Because iam a Linux fan doesn't mean iam very safe though I believe like we all do. :-)
---> see http://www.viruslibrary.com/virusinfo/Linux.htm.
But one thing remember Linux itself is an anti-virus and anti-spyware itself but can be bad too :-)
By the way it a big topic that can take hours if I started it but just google you will believe.

I would like to see your lists of Linux viruses and malware/spyware (not scripts for script-kiddies) :-).
I did not say it never crashes but I do get about 20 days of uptime before needing to reboot :-).

1.Why do you love Linux/Unix more than windows yet we all access a Microsoft windows box a day?

1.No viruses 2. No malware/spyware 3. No crashes (weeks of uptime!)

Why do I need more reasons?
