installed on it acts as a gateway for other PCs that need to skype others. In
effect others use your PC (and hence network), resources for their needs.
This returned bad memories of KaZAA, hence the inquiry to see if I could lock
it down straight from installation to serve only the internal network.
Not sure you can "lock it down" like that but considering that Skype is proudly brought to you by the same guys of KaZaA, it probably may be a long shot!
