so we have another product in the already overcrowded IM market.
i am really looking forward to seeing what gtalk(just my naming) has
that yahoo/msn/aim doesnt have already.
i can see they have got/not got
i) basic chat functionality - at least it integrates your gmail contacts
seamlessly
ii) voice over im - hummmm. (v)skype already does this for me, so does
yahoo, aim and msn. they got a good team working on this. still nothing
spectacular here
iii) shows me the subject and first thirty or so words of each new mail
i have, but if have over 50 emails, i doubt i will be looking at the
little box in the lower corner for very long - gpop will do quite fine.
iv) no search box on the gtalk client. cant search the net from the client
v) using jabber. excellent opensource alternative.

More reason to get a Multi-IM client like I was proposing a few weeks
ago.
Now that GMAIL Talk is out. Instead of having a separate client for
Yahoo, MSN and now GMAIL, just get ONE!
If you have a Multi-IM Client like gaim go to the option to connect to
jabber-protocol server then use the following settings to connect to
GMAIL Talk
server: talk.google.com
jabber id: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
port: 5222
use TLS encryption if possible
Allow plain text
Do not check legacy or old-style SSL
you can also get more info at
http://www.google.com/talk/
