It is possible to recover such data from (even formatted) disk. Much as the 
object would have been swapped out the fact that it was ever written to disk 
means someone with enough knoledge, time (and money) may be able to read it 
again.

I do not know if it is possible to do that with RAM, but if your data is 
sensitive enough, I'd guess you wouldn't want someone to recover it by 
stealing the disk.
