the X-problem seems to be common. i experienced the same thing with my FreeBSD 4.8 install but finally worked out, i thought it was because of my not having 'mainstream' hardware. how come this affects dell hardware as well? and what is in live cds that other more regular distros of linux or *nix do not have? why do they give you X or Xorg or K or gnome at boot?
