but why are you choosing extreme examples ?
i am perfectly aware that like you said "a ton of things can go wrong".
i am just astonished that a simple problem like this is not handle by the
ISP..
I don't think i am the only one with such a setup and I am also sure that
the lightning did not hit my single head only !

all i want AT LEAST is a bit of what i will call a more "professional"
reaction after an event like this:
=> "sorry your router is blown, maybe you can buy a new one BUT we need to
protect it by doing this and this ..."

and not just a we-don't-care-just-pay reaction
=> "sorry your router is blown, too bad for you, maybe you can buy a new
one, we have good ones !"

Regarding the responsibilities, I am not dealing with the telco, but with
the ISP
as an end user, I just don't care if they leased the lines or installed
their own
We are paying a service. If this service goes wrong I find normal to
protest.
