I have was never impressed with Opera. but i feel something may have been wrong with how i installed it. It was considerably slower than firefox when it came to opening the program, rendering pages, downloading files. Although i love that it has a torrent client built right in. Also its handling of flash was a lot worse than firefox. Is it time i gave it another shot? i am currently using a slim down version of firefox called swiftfox.
