Check and see when the last BIOS upgrade for that server was and if the BIOS upgrade allowed the machine to see disks of that size or if you could manually enter the cylinders, heads and sectors. You may have to manually enter the physical size of the disk (in heads sectors and cylinders) in the BIOS for each disk so that the BIOS can see the full size of the disk and pass that onto the OS
Lastly to confuse matters further the heads, sectors and cylinders is a IDE format which most BIOS's follow yet SCSI uses LBA instead. You have to understand both to configure your BIOS correctly.
Once done it should work beautifully Some reading that may be of help http://www.alasir.com/books/hards/073-075.html http://www.storagereview.com/guide2000/ref/hdd/bios/sizeMB504.html http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/J.Steunebrink/bioslim.htm Kiggs On Dec 2, 2008, at 8:09 AM, Daniel Bwente wrote:
Thanks guys, i forgot to mention that the E450 can only take 10 Hard disks Sun stopped support for it in 1999, if am lucky to get 36.4GB disks from a vendor i can only have about 300GB when i factor in RAID, that's why i wanted to put in say 72/136/160GB SCSI disks in the 10 available slots,CheersOn Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 8:00 AM, David Ziggy Lubowa <[EMAIL PROTECTED] > wrote:36GB is the max, just install more scsi hard drives of the same capacity, that should have you have sorted for expansion.> My guess is it would either not see the disks at all or just see the first> 36.4GB of space >> On Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 7:36 PM, Daniel Bwente <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:> >> Hi Guys >>>> Am looking to upgrade a Sun Enterprise 450 server's Hard disks, Product >> documentation gives 36.4GB as the biggest hard disks it can take, what>> are >> the possible ramifications of putting in disks bigger than 36.4GB? >> -- >> Dan >>>> "You won't have eyes tonight.
