Haha! Nice find.
If you want to transmit data faster than 10Base-T allows then it may be
time to upgrade :P

Ok, i gave up on the CNET switch, dont think its managed. But i got a 3com
linkswitch 3000 as well. That on has a management module.
It took some time to find the manual, and Oh My God! It's from 1997! Kyle,
web-interface?? Was Sir Berners-Lee born already!?
For all of you who need a trip down memory lane:

I need a serial cable, a BootP server, Windows Terminal, and much more ancient
stuff.
Can someone remember what a SLIP address is? Was that not the alternative for
Dial-up with the more advanced PPP ? Was it Winsuck Trumpet that used it?
The manual doesnt mention anything about a monitoring port, only about
broadcasting SNMP packets, which i think is slightly different.
Perhaps time to upgrade?

Logging into the web-interface of the switch (assuming it is a managed
switch) and flipping through the options screens will quickly tell you
if it will allow you to monitor/duplicate a port.

just to show i do RTM:
Apparently you can monitor a Switch Port. Now, my server is indeed
connected to a switch, and I have a spare NIC in the machine that I could
use exclusively for this single VM (using bridging or a virtual network)
What sort of specs does such a Swith Port have (as in, do i need a
special switch, or can i use the current CNET one)
And will that bridged/virtual NIC be able to monitor the traffic?

Hi,
I am running several VMs on one machine, using openvz (that was a LUG
tip 100 years ago, its wonderful)
Each VM has a public IP, and generates traffic, all of a different
nature. (DNS, POP3, IMAP, SMTP, WWW, OPENARENA etc.)
I would like 1 interface to monitor all traffic. Ntop comes to mind.
But, I am not running OpenVZ for nothing, and I want to run as little as
possible on the host machine, and as much as possible on VMs.
Is there any way to have NTOP running on a VM and still see all the data
that goes through the physical NIC?
