If I were Telkom, I'd not be talking about what was recommended or not recommended. Or speeds. You can't win this contest by getting all serious. A pigeon licked you. That's embarrassing. Too many comedians handed free material to work with. If I were Telkom, I'd just smile broadly, make some admissions of failure, make a few promises, and leave.

I think the problem those chaps have is that by default
ADSL offers higher data rates downstream (towards the
user). It is also a shared service since providers
usually connect many subscribers to the same DSLAM
(usually the cheaper the subscription the more people are
put on the same DSLAM). They should have opted for a more
efficient technology, as was recommended by the
provider.

That is a good point, actually... the asymmetry of ADSL
means the other side downloading the data can only receive
it as fast as the originating side can send it.

Assuming ADSL, say, 512Kbps up, the other side can only
support 512Kbps down, assuming all transit paths are clean
and clear (suffice it to say, the 512Kbps up package would
likely be on the "premier" side).

Cheers,

Mark.
