Lug, this is not a techie problem, its a general problem, just open a newspaper from any of the 'big' newspapers (New Vision, Monitor, et al), if you dont find 20 mistakes, in the first 5 pages, then something is wrong either with me or you. or listen to the so called big FM stations.
Several actors have brought us to this level. One of them is privatization. When the New Vision was government run, it was easier to find snow in hell than a grammatical error. The other issue is sophistication. Consumers have become less sophisicated. If FM Djs speak worse english, they might actually attract more listeners. Same goes to the Newspapers. There was a column, in the new vision, maybe 10 years a go, which used to highlight these goofs, in New vision and Monitor, it was taken to the recycle bin. My bad memory tells me, it was called Ooops. we have young people listening to wrong English on radio, newspapers with bad english and we expect them to write correct english. allow me to disgrace a bit. None of the big FM stations is available online. They are about 5 fm stations, which are online and these include (Sapientia, Radio Maria, Connect Air, Uganda on air, Alpha FM, Green channel(govt) In conclusion, privatization is good, but it has not worked, we have more radio stations and more newspapers, but college graduates, speak/write no better English than s.4 graduates of yester years. regards Cavin 'when you live next to the cemetery, you can not weep for everyone' From: Reinier Battenberg <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [LUG] [OT] Should techies have to demonstrate good > communication skills? > To: Linux Users Group Uganda <[email protected]> > Message-ID: <[email protected]> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" > > > Yo, Mikey, cn w put ya up 4 ya talk @ t LUG meet nxt wk? > > > (damn that's hard) > >
