Simon, When you posted the error message below,i was thrown off a bit, but from a second look and the manual in the link, you wish to install a modem and use it from some application.
I installed the e220 on a Suse 10.2 not too long a go; basically My suse 10.2 detects the modem, so i believe 10.3 should do as well; only the fake cdrom was the problem This link should help http://oozie.fm.interia.pl/pro/huawei-e220/ - although if i remember the kernel version in 10.3 is supposed see this modem without trouble. Anyway, you unplug the modem, plug it in and issue dmesg and post the output. This will help you understand if the problem is with the modem installation or with the modem configuration on the app side.
