There is a little glitch with that Modem, it has this fake cdrom thing that
makes the modem inaccessible under the auspices of incomplete installation for
kernel version before 2.6.20.

To resolve this you have to

set up a udev rule. This
rule tells the system to ignore the pseudo SCSI CDROM with the
drivers and assigns usbserial.ko driver tothe modem and a PC user
interface device.

I have tried to look for the rule i set but can't find the white paper and i
re-did my system and are using the CDMA instead.

Could you in the mean time just ascertain that you actually need these drivers
and that your hardware is not properly installed by doing a
1. "dmesg -c"
2. unplug modem
3. plug back and do a "dmesg" - send through the output

Usually, you should have a device /dev/ttyUSB*

and some other lines, if there are any errors, you will need to install the
rule, else proceed with the
dialing rule that Peter sent.

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the Problem.

The Warid modem is a very simple modem to set up. Linux sees it on /dev/ttyUSB0
and the attached conf will get it running using wvdial:

Create the file: /etc/wvdial.conf. Important parts highlighted in case you use
another dialer.

Ask Password = 0Dial Command = ATDTStupid Mode = 1

Compuserve = 0Force Address =Idle Seconds = 300

Auto DNS = 1-----------------------
Finished!
Execute wvdial and enjoy.

Hi,

In general, whenever someone solves this issue for any of the ISPs, if you can

writeup a small tutorial, then we can put that on the website.

Victor, you were getting Esther onto MTN, right? Did that work out, and, more

interestingly, how?
