Dear all,
I am trying to recover data from (of course) a failed system. According to
the resident guy, system was running Fedora Core 4, LVM with 2 SATA drives
each 300GB.
However when I try to scan them mdadm --examine --scan /dev/sda1 >>
/etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf or when I try to fdisk them, fdisk /dev/sda1 I get
the errors

<start errors>

usb-uhci.c: interrupt, status 3, frame# 121
sda: Unit Not Ready, sense:
current 00:00 sns = 70 2
ASC=3a, ASCQ=0
Raw sense data: 0x70 0x00 0x02  0x00 0x00 0x00 0x02 0x0a 0x3a
sda : block size assumed to be 512 bytes, disk size 1GB.
sda: Write Protect is off
 I/O error: dev 08:00, sector 0
ldm_validate_partition_table(): Disk read failed.
 I/O error: dev 08:00, sector 0
unable to read partition table

</end errors>

Please note that am doing this recovery off a Knoppix live CD, but am
wondering, is it worth proceeding or these drives are completely gone?
Your advise will be greatly appreciated

George
