Thomas,
I do a lot of on-line purchases and on some of them like ebay, I use PayPal. In
other cases, I use direct bank transfers or a credit card. PayPal has
consistently warned me against doing transaction with any supplier that asks
for transfers through Western Union, even if they are selling on ebay. Since
they have been in this business for a long time, they must be having a good
reason for such warnings.
As to how your friend's email got to them, there are simply too may ways email
addresses are harvested.
I haven't checked out the BIG Company your are refering to but if your gut
feeling tells you that their offer is too good to be true, then it is most
likely not true. If you haven't comitted any money yet, just forget about it.

George

Subject: [LUG] On-Line Shopping

Good Afternoon Members;
I come with some thing confusing, Hope any one here has heard and read about
these people who come up advertising Online Shopping.
The sites below are the ones I came across.
www.mart168.com and www.cnlnuh.cn
when one looks at the commodities and the prices offered for them, surely it
tempts to me, and i have already made an order. But when it came to payments
terms and looking at the whole set up of the system, I became  a little
skeptical about the business.

This is a big shopping store according to me, but some of the things I read
from their documents, they don't allow people from China to access their stores
(being a Chinese firm).

One goes ahead to wonder how they come up to know about the email addresses of
the people they send them to. When I asked a friend who happens to be the
person who sent the initial msg, he says he doesn't know any thing about it.

He further goes to say that he thinks these are advertising companies who seem
to be listening to yahoo and Google mails and send to contacts that you send to.

This being a big firm, I wonder why they still go ahead to use hotmail, yet
smaller companies in Uganda use company emails for purposes of identification
and pride of the company.

When it comes to terms of payment, it becomes more confusing... You are meant
to first pay through western Union, then send them the Access Codes through
mail (Which is very Insecure) then that is when they start processing your
delivery through DHL.

Now my Question goes to you members and if possible Any one working for DHL, Do
you think these people are real and do you encourage some one to think of
business with them?

Thank you

Stay Blessed
