Hi Andrew,

Please proceed as follows and after, post your outcome

1. @ your terminal, type:
   /opt/lampp/lampp startapache

2. @ your terminal, type:
   tail -2 /opt/lampp/logs/error_log

3. Based on what you post, i will be in a more informed position to help

Am a fan of the green chameleon (OpenSuSE 11.2) which i run on my
workstation but currently working off my MacBook Pro (so can't quickly
try out stuff to simulate your situation)

But it could be due to:
a). Running a different version of GLIBC; in which case, just download
the latest version
of xammp from http://www.apachefriends.org and hopefully, it should work
b). If after issuing the command 2) @your terminal above;

you see:

"Invalid argument: Could not set permissions on ssl_mutex"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit the Group directive in /opt/lampp/etc/httpd.conf like so:
Try each of these separately and each time try restarting your apache
to see if it loads
  Group nobody

  Group nogroup
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OR

"Invalid argument: Unable to create scoreboard"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In this case you have to remove the hash (#) in front of the
Scoreboard directive in /opt/lampp/etc/httpd.conf.
There, you should find something like:

#ScoreBoardFile logs/apache_runtime_status

Uncomment that to become:

ScoreBoardFile logs/apache_runtime_status

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
