Most modems should be read straight away on Linux, except the HUAWEI E220,
which had issues on a little older Linux kernels, as it'd present a pseudo
cdrom device (For driver installation on windows), hence the kernel fails to
see the actual serial device.

If that's the issue you're having, there is a page somewhere on google that
solves that (I've not been able to find it quickly now), but if that's
you're issue, I can search harder.

Daniel.

What kind of modem is it?
Mine (Huawei E156G) from MTN is just recognized by my Ubuntu and I can
connect using the network manager. No need for wine. But don't know how it
is on Suse.
