I noticed that in the newspapers this morning it mentioned that the phone
tapping bill has been passed
I had my reservations of provisions in the original draft
I would like to know if the passed bill still looks like the draft
Anyone with a copy?

"I heard it through the grapevine" that some members are under the belief
that I have an personal gain/ motive in pushing for the change in the
management of our national cctld.

First and foremost I'm flattered to think that some people believe that
simple me has the ability to push UCC to draft a policy so that I can have a
personal gain J.

I love the IT industry but I'm also a business person and to be honest the
numbers do not add up for me to want to take over the management of this
entity. So for those of you who first and foremost give me that level of
respect that I can influence UCC to that level, I'm sorry to disappoint you.
Apart from my views that I share openly here and on i-network, I had no
input on the document published by UCC and I do believe they have the
competency to draft such a document.

This is in a public fora so please bring these issues out, I have a thick
skin so do not worry about hurting my feelings.

Lets discuss this issue for the benefit of all without taking a final
position. If we all come to the discussion with final position the one
with the strongest arm will always win. Lets learn to embrace change.
Taking an unsustainable dogmatic position as some on the list have done over
the years takes us no where but to a position of conflict where we might
end up with a forced outcome.

My position for the record is for an outcome where we have a top level
structure that represents the interests of all stakeholders. The technical
level and operations may or may not change much but the accountability
changes to this representative body. The detail is for others to work out.

regards

Hi everyone,

This month the Uganda Linux User Group will host four events in three
cities.

This Friday, events will be held in Mbarara, Jinja, and Kampala. Aside
from the usual geekery, these events will include hands-on Python training
sessions taught by local Python developers from the LUG community. If you
are a programmer or think you might like to be a programmer, these events
are for you.

Then, on Friday, July 23rd, the Uganda Linux User Group will be joining
forces with Google in order to bring you Python, AppEngine, free beer, and
pizza!

This event is for beginner and intermediate level developers who would
like to learn how to create web applications in Google AppEngine using the
Python programming language. Free beer and pizza will be served at
Google's Kampala offices following the event, though be aware that you
must attend the main event in order to be eligible for the after-party.

As usual, free copies of free software will be available at all four events.

Thanks go out to the hosts of this months events: Jet Internet Cafe/S7
School, Hackers for Charity, the Mbarara University of Science and
Technology, and Makerere University.

For more information, check out our website:
http://linux.or.ug/

Also, if you're interested in joining the Google development community
here in Uganda, check out the GTUG Kampala website:
http://www.gtugs.org/chapter.jsp?id=141001

See you there!

Regards,
Kyle Spencer
