Google is phasing out the Microsoft Windows Operating system and replacing it
with Apple Macs for the employees at all locations including the 4 offices in
India. Make no mistake, this change is not one of the luxury gifts that the
company hands out every now and then and neither does it have a fancy reason
attached. The reason behind the big change is security. Google has faced
security threats on windows and are moving to a safer OS that is Mac.
n this security effort, they have slowly started distributing Mac in its
locations and it will be a gradual phase out. It is obvious that employees will
need time to get hands on the OS but most of them are up for it. Windows is
known for being more vulnerable to attacks by hackers and more susceptible to
computer viruses than other operating systems. Windows also owes its
vulnerability to its popularity. It’s the most at-risk operating system for
cyber attacks. Getting new windows machines will require higher authority
approval at Google going forward.
The change is all the more welcomed after the China cyber attacks that happened
recently. Anyhow, it’s only a matter of time when its very own operating system
chrome OS will be ready for use. Chrome OS is not the usual operating system.
It essentially would be a Web browser that includes OS necessities such as file
storage, peripherals support and security. The good news is the Google Chrome
for Mac has already joined windows and Linux league and is now a stable
browser. This announcement was made at the Official Google Mac Blog.
For now, its bye bye Windows – Welcome aboard Mac !
