On Friday, October 22nd, the Uganda LUG will host an event titled "Open Source Journalism" at UNICEF's Kampala headquarters. This will be a single day event targeted toward local and international journalists, their organizations senior information technology staff, their upper management, and other media stakeholders. The purpose of this event is to train attendees on a variety of valuable tools and skills relevant to the field of journalism. The timing of this event is important due to the upcoming elections in Uganda and the secession referendum in Sudan. This event will feature talks by Wikileaks, CNN string reporter Greg Branch, Ushahidi & Swift River lead developer Matt Griffiths, renowned author and Hackers for Charity founder Johnny Long, Lydia Namubiru from the Grameen Foundation, and more.
