Some good stuff happening...

Apparently its harder to design software specific to a system or OS such as S60 or S40 on Linux machines.

I know that there are a number of porting features such as the use of J2ME Polish; but that too is very limited (you'll have to hack out endless hours before you succeed defining a clearly built aplication for S60 or S40 phones, fragmentation is still a key issue)... You may say, "J2ME polish" is the deal for Java enabled apps, but, there's quite a license that goes with J2ME polish (http://www.j2mepolish.org/cms/leftsection/licensing.html ) for commercial applications... and I don't think developers want to always stay broke!

A lot of the development is still predominantly windows or largely "broad" i.e. you develop a general solution which won't work unless fragmented.

But, I am happy that there's such an incentive in Uganda (and East Africa).. I just hope there's a lot more support with developing SDKs that will run on a purely Linux or Unix-based machine...

thanks.
