Collins, i participate in an education ICT blog where people passionate about ICT in education throw crazy ideas, at 1 point i was excited about the OLPC initiatives, until i started reading further, one of the master pieces, was "Oversold and under used - Computers in the classroom, by Larry Cuban"
I have come to a conclusion that while ICT is good, some of these initiatives are like white elephants, i think its over 10 years since the Great Nelson Mandela national stadium was built with a lot of fanfare, and some analysts predicted that Uganda will not only go to the nations cup, but the big one too (World Cup), and the standard of football has remained the same or declined. The stadium holds more prayers, parties than soccer activities Someone pointed out that initiatives like OLPC make good schools better and bad schools worse, and i think he had a point -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
